The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa recently hosted a comprehensive first aid workshop aimed at enhancing students’ emergency response capabilities. The event, titled “Basics of First Aid,” was organized through a collaborative effort between the faculty, the Women’s Affairs Unit, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, and the Iraqi Red Crescent Society’s Najaf Branch.
Assistant Professor Dr. Shubber Munim, Head of the Department of Architecture, led faculty attendance at the workshop, which drew participants from various academic disciplines across the university. The training was delivered by a specialized team from the Red Crescent, who provided expert instruction on handling critical emergency situations, including burns, wounds, fainting episodes, and fractures.
The workshop’s primary objective was to equip participants with essential life-saving skills and emphasize the crucial role of first aid in emergency situations. Attendees received practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and proper utilization of first aid supplies, while also learning the appropriate boundaries of intervention before professional medical assistance arrives.
Following the successful completion of the workshop, several key recommendations emerged:
Implementation of regular hands-on training sessions throughout the academic year
Strategic placement of first aid kits across campus facilities
Integration of first aid awareness into the university’s extracurricular programming
The initiative received enthusiastic participation from the student body, demonstrating a strong interest in acquiring these vital emergency response skills. This positive reception has created momentum for additional health and safety awareness programs at the university in the coming months.
The workshop represents an important step in the Faculty of Engineering’s broader commitment to developing well-rounded graduates equipped with both academic knowledge and practical life skills.
