A new research paper authored by Dr. Maitham Naim Saleh, a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa, in collaboration with Professor Dr. Aleen Miklason from the University of Colorado Boulder, was published in the journal Photonics Letters of Poland.
The paper, “Influence of a polyimide Coating Layer on Losses of Fabricated SOI Slot Waveguides, ” appears in Volume 15, Issue 2 of the journal, specializing in optics and optical electronics engineering research.
This study theoretically and experimentally demonstrated the effect of a polyimide coating layer in reducing the propagation and bend losses experienced by optical signals traveling through silicon-on-insulator slot waveguides. Waveguides fabricated on silica surfaces are commonly used to manufacture high-speed communication circuits and photovoltaic systems.
The polyimide coating significantly decreased the losses resulting from the interaction of the optical signal with the silicon-silica interface. This study provides new insights into enhancing integrated photonic devices through optimized waveguide coatings.
