Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Naji Attia, a lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, recently participated in a thought-provoking seminar titled “Seismic Code Requirements for Buildings Resistant to Earthquake Effects.” The meeting, hosted at the Training and Development Center of the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities, aimed to educate engineers on the practical implementation of the Iraqi seismic code in construction projects nationwide.
Dr. Attia delivered a captivating presentation during the symposium, focusing on earthquake-resistant reinforced-concrete structural systems. In his talk, he provided a comprehensive overview of American specifications in this domain and explored their viability for incorporation into the design of local, newly constructed buildings. By shedding light on these innovative approaches, Dr. Attia aimed to enhance engineers’ knowledge and understanding, empowering them to implement effective seismic design strategies in Iraq’s construction industry.
