Dr. Karim Munim Al-Abdali, a lecturer in the Department of Architectural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering – University of Kufa, recently participated in the Fourth International Scientific Conference on Sustainable Engineering Contributions and Applications. The conference took place at Wasit University from May 10th to 11th, 2023.
During the conference, Dr. Al-Abdali presented his research titled “Rethinking Traditional City Center Through Sustainable Urban Design Strategies.” The study aimed to improve the quality of life in traditional city centers by proposing sustainable urban design strategies. To achieve this, a multi-method approach was employed to identify key issues and opportunities, including challenges such as traffic congestion, insufficient green spaces, and inadequate infrastructure.
The research paper put forward several strategies to address these challenges and enhance the traditional city centers. These strategies encompassed various aspects, including the enhancement of pedestrian infrastructure, the increase of green spaces, the improvement of public transportation, and the preservation of the city’s traditional fabric. By implementing these strategies, it is expected that the quality of life in traditional city centers can be significantly improved while maintaining their unique heritage.
