A research team from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa publishes a scientific research

A joint research team from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa represented by Prof. Dr. Ali Kadhim Jaber and A. Prof. Dr. Yahya Jassim Harbi and A. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Falih, scientific research entitled “Scalable image compression algorithms with small and fixed-size memory” in Signal, Image, and Video Processing journal at Springer Nature. In this research, the famous image compression algorithm (SPIHT) is characterized by a relatively short processing time, good efficiency and flexibility in terms of quality, meaning that it has the ability to retrieve compressed images in more than one quality and according to the user’s desire. Unfortunately, SPIHT suffers from massive computer memory usage (about 2-3 times the size of an image). The second problem (SPIHT) is that it is inflexible in terms of image size, that is, it is unable to retrieve compressed images of more than one size. Research suggests two flexible tan algorithms for compressing images. The first algorithm reduces the memory used for SPIHT by 75% as well as reduces image processing time and improves its efficiency slightly. The second algorithm addressed the problem of volumetric elasticity (SPIHT) Volumetric flexibility was added by compressing image size levels in ascending order. These features are of great interest to Internet users who have specific access ranges and different display capabilities.
