Upon the directives of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mahdi Al-Khateeb, and sponsored by the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Zaid Sattar Kareem, seminars have been hold for postgraduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The seminar sessions were managed by Dr. Hashim Naji Al Mahmud. Among this scientific activity, the master student Karrar Haidar Ali specialized in Power Mechanics delivered his presentation about “Studying the effect of the shape of the base of the solar distiller on the general thermal performance using nanomaterials.” The study has been conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ghassan Fadel Sumaisem, a faculty member in the department.
The research deals with the use of a solar distillation system to produce distilled water and studies the effect of changing the water level inside the solar distiller by improving its performance. In addition, the research involved studying the effect of changing the shape of the base and adding three different types of nanomaterials with different concentrations and determining the best condition for the solar still to produce the most possible amount of Distilled water.
