A Lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Kufa, is a Chair of the Committee Discussing a Master’s Thesis on the Streets of Baghdad

The lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Hamid Athab Idan, was chosen as the chair of the committee discussing the master thesis entitled: “Analytical study of the impact of side blocking of main streets in Baghdad” for the student Walaa Ali Hussain from the College of Engineering, Al-Mustansiriya University, majoring in Road and Transport Engineering / Transportation.
A study was conducted on the effect of lateral friction elements on the main traffic characteristics in three selected urban streets in Baghdad, namely, Palestine Street near Palestine Mall, Palestine Street in Zayouna area, and 14-Ramadan Street in Mansour area.
The results were summarized by noting a clear decrease in the speed of free flow, as the highest decrease was in Palestine Street near Palestine Mall, 29.13%, as a result of the negative impact of the second lane permanent vehicle stop, temporary vehicle stops, and pedestrian crossing. Also, a clear decrease in traffic capacity was observed, as the highest decrease was observed in Palestine Street in the Zayouna area, 33.92%, as a result of the negative effect of the first lane permanent vehicle stopping component.
