As part of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa’s continuous to provide its services to the community, the Department of Civil Engineering organized a seminar during which Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Kadum Fakhraldin gave his lecture entitled: “Use of industrial waste to improve granular soil”.
The seminar dealt with several types of industrial wastes in many countries, including Iraq, and how they are used in improving the properties of granular soils. As factories throw large quantities of waste annually that affect the environment, so their use is considered to rid the environment of harmful substances and improve the soil at low or zero cost.
Dr. Fakhraldin explained during the symposium and in his scientific lecture that he virtually met that there are many methods used to improve soil properties, including compaction, dynamic compaction, injection, soil stabilization with cement and other materials, dynamic consolidation, soil reinforcement, the use of stone columns, and many other methods but all of these methods need a high cost.
