A Lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa participated in a Seminar on Virtual Cultural Heritage

The lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Naji Attiyah, participated in a virtual seminar on cultural heritage, which was held by the University of Leeds English in cooperation with the universities of Wasit and Technology, where the seminar aimed to develop the capabilities of young people in preserving cultural heritage.
Attiyah’s participation included giving a lecture entitled: “The role of local communities in promoting and protecting cultural heritage”.
Dr. Attiyah highlighted the deterioration in the urban heritage of the historic center of the holy city of Najaf, by comparing it with the historical center of Barcelona. Dr. Attiyah presented a proposal based on educating the societies associated with the Holy City to the importance of its historical center for the survival of its cultural identity and dividing these societies into four categories: visitors where millions enter each year to the city, and students of religious sciences who come from all regions of the world to live and seek knowledge, and workers in local industries especially the heritage ones, and the last category is the residents of the city. The awareness of these groups to preserve the heritage of Najaf will contribute to ensuring that this heritage is preserved and passed on to future generations.
