Eng. Shaymma Mahmoud Badr Ali, a master’s student in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa, participated in the Second International Conference on Civil and Environmental Engineering Technology, with the research entitled: “Prediction of the contamination track in Al-Najaf city soil using numerical modeling”
This conference was organized by the University of Kufa in cooperation with the College of Engineering / Civil Engineering Department and held on the virtual free conference call (FCC).
The researcher clarified that the research was partaken with her supervisor for the master’s thesis, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Shaker Al-Shakerchy and Dr. Ali Akhtabour from the Ferdowsi University of Iran, noting that the research dealt with the problem of groundwater and soil pollution under landfills, as in Iraq there is a lack of data to measure the level of Leachate waste generated under landfill.
Al-Shakerchy said: Leachate waste production is related to several factors, such as meteorological data, waste production levels, design landfill requirements, etc., while the large differences in these factors indicate that the leachate modeling processes are complex. Adding that the research predicts the movement of different pollutants in the soil of the bottom of the waste in the city of Najaf to predict the behavior of the pollutants and their distribution to understand the distribution of pollutants in the soil correctly, by knowing the depth of seepage in the soil and preventing the contamination of groundwater under the soil of the landfill using a digital model in GeoStudio 2012 Software.
The papers participating in the conference will be published in a series of conferences in IOP for Science and Materials Engineering which is an indexed journal in Scopes.
