A lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kufa delivered a Lecture on Cultural Diversity at a Seminar organized by the UNESCO Agency

The lecturer from the College of Engineering at the University of Kufa, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Naji Attiyah, gave a seminar entitled: “Promoting cultural diversity for peace” in the virtual specialized seminar organized by the UNESCO Agency at the University of Kufa in cooperation with the Two Rivers Network at University College London and the Heritage for Peace Organization in Spain, on the occasion of the International Day for Cultural Diversity.
The seminar started with a welcome speech presented by the Director of UNESCO, Dr. Hassan Nazim, followed by a recorded speech from the Director of the Two Rivers Network, Dr. Eleanor Robson, and then Mr. Asper Sabreen, President of Heritage for Peace, gave a briefing on the activities of that organization and the efforts it is undertaking to build peace, especially in the Middle East.
Attiyah explained that the seminar dealt with the importance of cultural heritage in peacebuilding, during which he presented the UNESCO agreements concluded to protect the tangible heritage in 1972 and to promote the intangible heritage in 2003 and 2005. The seminar was followed by an intervention by the Director of the International Accreditation Department at the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Ali Al-Saffar, in which he spoke about the importance of cultural diversity and coexistence between different cultures and the need to incorporate these concepts into education programs. Some of the attendees asked different questions about the subject, including what was presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Hasan Mahdi Al-Khateeb, who pointed out two things, the importance of having a clear roadmap in dealing with cultural diversity, which represents a working policy that promotes sustainable development plans for the country, and the second issue relates to the risk of undeveloped development projects on heritage and archaeological sites.
